A Wise Man

A wise man is he who in the presence of the causes of agitation does not become agitated. A wise man is he who does not resist. Now don’t let this only remain in your notebook. I criticize you. How are you feeling inside. Check that. That was a cause for agitation. How much resistance goes in you. Check that. Do you follow? "What right does he have to tell me this!" That’s one reaction. "Why did you neglect that particular part?" Well, yeah, and if I did it right: "You’re expected to do it right. What kind of a disciple are you if you did it wrong?" In the same way as you are open to advice, look in your mind closely for these signs of agitation and the signs of attachments.

The second worst attachment is called aversion. The worst attachment is the attachment to one’s ideas. And the second form of attachment is called aversion. All other attachments come elsewhere, later, and the first thing, one of the first things that a Tantra Master does with his disciples is that he removes the idea of aversions, that there are some things that are ugly, that are bad: stay away from them. I always tell people, “If you are a celibate brahmachari, then it is your duty to go into the prostitute’s den.” Who will help them? And if you are free of dependence and addiction, it is your duty to go to the alcoholic bar without aversion, without judgment. And that is what the Tantrics do with their disciples, but then before that they make them impervious. Not muscularly impervious, but mentally impervious. There are two kinds of showing off imperviousness: "I am so strong. Nobody can pull me down." No. Just gently inside knowing yourself. That’s all.
