The Tradition in Europe

Scattered over Europe, there is a growing number of yoga and meditation teachers who, over the past thirty years, have been trained by Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati.They have therefore been schooled in the ancient principles, methods, techniques, philosophy and spirit of the Himalayan Tradition. The Tradition, which has been passed on from Master to Master for thousands years, finds its basis and origin in the Vedic scriptures, the Upanishads, Patanjali's Yoga-Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita - authentic teachings which have been guarded, preserved and passed on by the yogis living in the caves of the Himalayas.

Yoga meditation is a both broad and in-depth training, is provided on different levels, and can be received in India as well as in Europe. Most of the European teachers have completed the training and are fully qualified; others are still 'in training'. The European instructors teach in several countries of Europe and even Africa, either at their own yoga institute with several courses or in smaller settings and private lessons.

Every year for nine months Swami Veda Bharati travels all the continents to meet with teachers and yoga- and meditation-practitioners. Several times a year there are in different countries of Europe workshops, training courses, seminars and retreats conducted by 'international' teachers from Swami Veda's entourage. These teachers are also present when once a year a large number of the European teachers gather for an extensive retreat with Swami Veda Bharati.

Swami Veda Bharati and the European teachers have felt the need to combine and concentrate their efforts and service to further in Europe yoga meditation according to the Himalayan Tradition. A central point/organisation is needed to function as an information and communication channel for those who are looking for yoga meditation and spirituality in the true sense of the word. Such a centre can use its links to direct those interested to yoga and meditation classes in their own country. And for all the European teachers involved in the Himalayan Tradition such a centre will provide a way and means to communicate and to exchange information, and to present to Europe the ancient yoga-and-meditation tradition.
