Sonia van Nispen tot Sevenaer

Has been teaching in Cotonou, Benin till 2007(francophone West-Africa): hatha, pranayama, subtle body practices, yoga philosophy in the Himalayan Tradition, guiding meditations. Started practicing yoga with Idriss Ouédraogo, a disciple of Swami Veda Bharati, disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 1998. Purpose was to combat stress and promote physical health, but very soon dived into the spiritual side of Yoga. Was instructed to prepare for teaching in 1999, and started - timidly - in 2000. Initiated by SVB in February 2000. Left Burkina Faso for neighbouring Benin in summer 2001, and started a little centre there which now - in 2006 - has hatha yoga classes four evenings a week, guided meditations twice a month, short retreats which include hatha, meditation, pranayama & subtle body practices and yoga philosophy six times a year, as well as regular social gatherings, usually around a vegetarian dinner. Hope to have left enough trained teachers - with a very large input from Idriss and other teachers in the Himalayan Tradition - at the time of leaving to keep the center going. Preparing for a six or seven months stay at the Ashram (October 2006 - April 2007). Is now posted in the Netherlands after that (working for the Netherlands' Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and will see how I can share what yoga has given me.
