IN MEMORIAM
JOCELYNE LAFITTE
Jocelyne Laffitte, yoga teacher of the Himalaya Tradtion in Madrid, passed away on 21 December 2007.
The sad news of Jocelyne’s passing came as a great chock to all of us within the Tradition who have known her.
Swami Veda has described Jocelyne as a most effective teacher: she would select her students carefully, attend to only a limited number, and work with them over a long term. She has left behind some very competent teachers to carry on the work in Madrid.
After spending some time in England in the School of Mr. McLaren (in the Santananda Saraswati tradition), Jocelyne was asked to start a spiritual school in Spain, which she did in October 1981. She led the school and taught there until June 1993, when changes compelled her to search again.
During that period that followed she made three visits to India, where she met Swami Rama. Under his guidance she began, in September 1993, a new school, which she continued until her demise.
For non-English speaking spiritual seekers she has translated into Spanish four of Swami Rama’s books, which have been published by Lotus Press and are available from her school in Madrid.
In honour of Jocelyne, the work is now carried on by José Manuel and Matilde and some other students of Jocelyne’s. They have taken the responsibility for the school. It is fortunate that Jocelyne has left a lot of material for her students to work with.
We will always remember Jocelyne with great affection.
